California

After finally getting our internet back late Thursday night, I'm just now starting to get my head far enough above water that I can take a couple of minutes to tell you guys about our trip to California.

It was awesome. We had to leave VERY early Wednesday morning to catch our flight out of Madison, but C was a good sport. Flight to Chicago was totally uneventful and C appreciated the long layover to get a chance to stretch her legs.
For the record, light weight swaddling blankets are awesome long after a baby's done being swaddled. We had a little trouble getting out of Chicago (had to switch planes after boarding one with a bum gauge, but all an all the trip out was very easy. C was more of a challenge then she was at 10 weeks, but the bulkhead row in first class helped :o)

One we got to Norm and Jean's house one of the first things we did was take advantage of the stroller they got to go exploring:

The are is beautiful. They're tucked right up against very "young" looking mountains - makes for really interested topography.
There was also lots of time spent just hanging out

Leading up to the two highlights of the trip....

1) Swimming

2) Alex and Norm winning the tournament AGAIN

California

Was amazing. The desert is beautiful and we all had a great time. Unfortunately the combination of forgetting the cd with all the pictures, and coming home to find our Internet out until we get a new modem from AT&T, leaves me without much in the way of posting options. Here's my new favorite picture to tie you over until I'm up and running again.

New Challenges

Tomorrow at 6:00 we board a plane for California. While it's not c's first plane trip, I'm actually just as nervous as I was the first time around. Using the thoughtbot onsie as a measuring stick, she's just a touch bigger this time around. I'll keep you guys posted.

Oh hi

Anyone down there?

More random thursday updates

Just a warning - this is going to be an awfully sparse post whose sole purpose is keeping me on track for at least weekly updates :)

So what's new? The Provans are tired. Well I guess that's not actually new, but it's something that we're struggling with. Alex has been in Atlanta sine Monday and is working his tail off down there. I've been teaching a class this week that only comes up every six months or so and involves a ton of out of class prep time. Jean came to our rescue and has been in town all week helping with c, but I'm sure even she Is getting tired - I think she may break the work record for number of loads of laundry done in a three day period :)

Things get easier starting tomorrow when Alex gets home, so here's shooting for more fun updates starting the weekend!

Hugs

It's been a rough week here in mad town. I've been training all week and Alex has already worked 45 hours at the new job, and it's only Thursday. Yet I'm doing fantastic.

Why? Well after coming home from my volleyball games today (where we played terribly), c noticed I was home, reached for me when I got close, and then GAVE ME A HUG! That's right. My first hug from my baby girl. How could I not be doing fantastic?

Another ordinary day

Yesterday I was feeling a little sad about how long it's been since c has gotten to see her east coast (and even farther east) family. So, since hopping on a plane this morning wasn't an option, I decided to do the next best thing. Round two of an ordinary day.  If our family can't spend a real day together, we can at least virtually spend the day together.

700 - View while nursing

Hurray she slept until 7! Weekends are usually a crap shoot when it comes to sleeping, so 7 really is best case scenario. Pumping has started to become more of a challenge with all the training I've been doing, so I'm excited for a day a can just nurse. The crazy things hanging from the wall above the changing table are block letters that spell Charlotte that Grandma Jean gave C for Christmas. They've been a fun addition to the nursery.

730 - Showing sign of mobility
C has gotten to the point where she's rolling at will, but now seems content to hang out on her tummy for a while. I fear pushing up might be imminent.

800 - Really mom?
Mom, I'm not sure how that flash is supposed to help me fall asleep for my morning nap...

900
no picture, but c is finally sleeping after and hour of down for 10 minutes, screaming like a banshee after rolling onto her belly. Maybe she doesn't have this Rollin thing down after all...

1000 - Feel the burn

About to have my rear kicked at TRX class. I can feel the pain already. For those unfamiliar, it consists of 45 minutes of exercises and cardio done while holding onto those straps in some fashion. Lots of core, lots of stabilizing muscles. LOTS of soreness the next day. I can't get enough.

1100 - I leave the house for an hour...

Home from the gym in time to catch Alex and c monkeying around. Time to nurse and plan the rest of our day :)

1400 - Glamor Shot

Missed a couple of hours there while I was off getting fabulous. C has started to grab hair so I'm probably going to regret the trim instead of chop, but right now it's fun having long hair.

1530 - Power Shopper

Home after a very successful outing to Trader Joe's. C watched the world from the ergo while I picked out the makings of baby and adult food. C was a big hit with the grandma age ladies out shopping. It was kinda fun.

1600 - Chopped?

While c naps I managed to cook a chicken breast which is about to become my first attempt at meat puree since making dog treats. I also put together the crab cakes that will be the adults first course tonight.

1630  - Party Time!

Up from her nap and ready to dance! (Check out the video on Path - it's pretty funny)

1700 - Every expanding pallet

A small snack of wild game before the next round of nursing

1800 - Boys and their toys
Friday was Alex's last day at his old job. A business policy of theirs that I appreciate but will never understand is that they give employees severance when they quit. You're looking at a small chunk of his severance - a new sound system for the living room. As always, max is being helpful.

1900 - Wrapping it up

Not sure how to wrap this up other than saying that I'm pretty darn lucky that this is an ordinary day. Non-madison family - we miss you.
